Rescues
From time to time an animal arrives at the ranch in need of
extra care.  All get the help they need and are now part of
a loving family.  Sometimes one will get a forever home
here at the ranch and we may have an "in progress" rehab
that will be looking for a new home soon.

Meet "Hunter".  On a cold late fall day I found
this poor guy curled up at my front gate.  He was
skinny as you can see in his before photo and
scared to death.  After an evaluation by the vet it
was determined that he was fairly healthy
considering and heartworm free.  Once Hunter
had gained some weight he was off to the vet to
be neutered.  He turned out to be a really great
dog and quite handsome.  Hunter has been in
his new home not quite a year now and I've
gotten rave reviews from his new family.  His new
family includes a 4 year old boy and a min
schnauzer.  As you can see in the after picture
life seems to be treating him well.  A big thank
you to my Giant Schnauzer friends for
assistance with is vet bills.
Meet "Okie".  This great looking border collie
showed up at my Mother's new house.  He was
waiting in the yard when she arrived with the
moving van.  He looked well cared for but had no
identification on his collar.  No one responded to
our effort to locate an owner and he settled in as
temporary guest.  Already neutered when he
arrived Okie just needed his vaccines updated
and some flea and tick prevention.
He has been re-homed to live with a retired age
but active gentleman who lives on a small ranch
where Okie gets to ride shotgun in the truck.

This is "Mable"  this grand old girl met me in the
street one day while I was turning into the ranch
driveway.  Great Dane but maybe not purebred
she was thin and had sores on her feet.
Neighbors said she had been on the other end of
the road ( a mile or 2 away) for about a week.
Once again efforts to locate an owner failed.
Sweet as could be this old girl deserved better
than being dumped on the side of the road.  Vet
thought she was 7 or 8...Old in Great Dane years.
She found a great home with a young newly
married couple.  The husband was raised with
Great Danes and Mable is a great first dog for this
young couple.

Next we have "Mattie"  This baby of unknown
breeding  was about 12 weeks old when she ran
out in front of my truck.  I nearly hit her as did the
semi going the other way.  She was so scared she
hunkered down in the tall grass beside the road.
Before she could figure out what to do I scooped
her up...all 8 lbs of her.  She was in good weight
but covered in fleas and ticks.  She went
immediately to the vet where it was determined
she had a jaw fracture and was treated for fleas,
ticks and internal parasites.  Thankfully the jaw
fracture was stable and did not require surgery.
Here at the ranch she blossomed into an outgoing
and fun little dog.  She has a forever home here
and Griffin my Giant Schnauzer adores her.
Mattie is almost a year old now and has grown to
just shy of 30 lbs and has been spayed.
Hunter the day he arrived
Meet Jazzmine and Scarlett both
Giant Schnauzers.  These girls
were found running and went
unclaimed after being picked up
by an Oklahoma animal shelter.
The girls came here as fosters
already spayed and up to date on
health care provided by the
shelter. Just before Christmas
2009,  after several months the
new adoptive owners were met in
Joplin, MO and the girls were on
their way to Minnesota.  The girls
are in the same extended family.
Jazzmine to one house where her
new owner is a veterinarian and
helps train firefighters and first
responders how to deal with
animals in crisis at house fires
and car accidents.  Scarlett is
living with Jazzmines owners
parents and is being adored by
them.  Thanks to HTZ Giant
Schnauzer rescue for funding all
costs associated with fostering
the girls.
Feb 14, 2010....another one....a sweet border collie
showed up at the ranch today.  Found her trying to
"work" the goats.  Typical border collie zing, pays no
attention to the horses and was good with the cats
even if they were mean to her.  I've posted fliers in
town, a sign by the driveway, listed her 3 times on the
local radio call in show and have ads in the found
section of 2 local papers.  So far no calls.  I had so
hoped she wasn't dumped.  Pictures after I'm sure no
one is going to claim her.  She seems in good health,
clean and in good weight.  What special name might
she get for showing up on Valentine's day?
Good news !   This girl was returned to her owners!
