Premium and Retired Horse Boarding
Retirement boarding of horses is getting to be more commonplace as horses
live longer.  If your favorite mount is no longer competitive, has gotten a bit
slower, not quite as sound maybe you are considering a retirement
situation.  Your horse doesn't need to be "old" to qualify for this boarding
service.  If you prefer just the basics see our standard board rates under
long term board.  This boarding package is perfect for owners who are not
local or for youngsters who need a bit of time to grow up.  We can custom
design a package for your horse or horses just ask.

You will see other retirement boarding barns talk about the "natural" way of
life for a horse and turning them out in groups to live like a horse.  We feel
this is a grand idea and frankly the ranch owned horses live that kind of life.
The more likely reality is that your now retired horse has lived a life of being
in a stall with lots of human contact, grooming, blankets, fly spray and daily
routine.  These horses can't just be turned out.  If you would like to work
toward a pasture type lifestyle for your horse we can help you do that.  In the
meantime your horse can have many of the creature comforts he/ she is
used to with our premium boarding package.

Here is our premium retirement board package....it includes nearly
everything so you won't be bothered with add ons every month.

  • Inside board- 12 x 12 stall rubber matted w/ shavings.  Turnout into
private or semi private paddock daily as the weather permits.

  • Feed:  quality grass hay and or pasture along with the amount of high
fat 14% feed per the label based on your horses weight.  (Senior feed
    available at additional cost)

  • supplements you provide.  Have them shipped in, we like SmartPak
brand due to the ease of feeding.  There is no extra charge for
administering supplements that can go on your horses feed if you
provide them.  If you would like the ranch to obtain supplements for
you we charge cost + shipping + 10%.  You can easily order the
supplements you want from your favorite vendor and have them
    shipped to the ranch.

Your horse will be closely supervised daily by an experienced horse person.
I've owned horses over 30 years and have always taken care of my own,
never boarded at a full care facility.  During my horse owning years I've had
as many as 16 of my own at one time including breeding stallions,
broodmares, foals, show horses etc.  I am qualified to handle all types of
horses and levels of training.  The day to day handling of horses means that
I have the skills to handle minor and major issues that may come up and
have the ability to recognise the difference between them.  A good working
relationship with several veterinarians allows me to choose the best clinic for
the needs of your horse.   Over the years I've handled many horse
medicines both over the counter and Rx.  I always keep a well stocked
medicine cabinet.

Your horse can be out on pasture during the day or in a dry lot if there are
issues with overweight, founder etc.  When the new pastures go in with
shelters the option will be available for pasture only board.  If you want your
horse to have a buddy it may be possible depending on the other horses in
boarding at the time.

Standard board rate:
$4
25 / mo    on a month to month contract.
Some services are only available for horses with extended stays like new
coggins, wellness checks etc.

What you need to do....

Every horse arriving at the ranch needs the following:
  • Current (within 12 months) negative Coggins test
  • Health certificate within 10 days of arrival
  • Properly fitting halter in serviceable condition
  • Our intake form filled out-this details instructions for your horses care
  • Any medicine or supplements your horse is on including written
instructions on administration.  Any Rx drugs need to be in their
original container with a veterinary label.
  • Suggest no shoes if possible (horses with hind shoes will not be
    turned out with other horses)
  • Any horse clothing like blankets, sheets, fly masks, protective leg wear
you want your horse to have.  If your name is not on these items when
they arrive we will mark them for identification.
  • Signed boarding agreement
  • First months board pre-paid

Climate here in central Oklahoma....most of the year is very nice.  July and
August can be hot.  The barn has a misting system to help control
temperature as well as fans.  Pastures have plenty of shade.  Most of the
time in the winter the days are nice,  above freezing and sunny.  We get
snow but usually not more than an inch or 2 that melts in a few days.  Rarely
do ponds freeze over.  While no place is "perfect" in terms of weather we
think Oklahoma is pretty close.
